Overview
Cyber Essentials serves as an information assurance program overseen by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) and backed by the UK Government with the primary objective of assisting organisations to protect themselves against online threats.
In a joint effort, the Government joined forces with the Information Assurance for Small and Medium Enterprises (IASME) and the Information Security Forum (ISF) to establish a comprehensive set of technical controls.

The technical controls meausered by the cyber essentials scheme include:
- Access control.
- Secure devices and software.
- Secure internet connection.
- Security update management.
- Malware protection
Officially launched in 2014, and supported by reputable entities like the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), and multiple insurance companies. Their backing emphasises the significance and reliability of the Cyber Essentials initiative.
