Microsoft is ending support for Windows 10 in October 2025. That means no more updates, no more security patches, and no protection if something goes wrong. For your business, that’s a serious risk, and you need to be preparing now.
What Happens After Windows 10 Support Ends?
Once Microsoft stops supporting Windows 10, it becomes a major security risk. We’ve seen this before, when support ended for Windows 7 and 8, cybercriminals immediately started targeting those systems, exploiting known weaknesses that would never be fixed.
If your business is still running Windows 10 after October, you’ll be in the same vulnerable position.
What You Should Do Now
Here’s what the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) recommends — and what we advise all businesses to do straight away:
1. Check What Devices You’re Using
Not all computers are ready for Windows 11. You need to review your devices and see which ones are compatible and which ones are too old.
2. Replace What’s Outdated
Devices that can’t be upgraded will need to be replaced. Delaying this risks shortages, price increases, or being left exposed with unsupported systems.
3. Review Your Security Settings
Windows 11 includes better built-in protection — but only if it’s configured correctly. Make sure devices are set up with proper encryption, secure logins, and automatic updates.
4. Keep Everything Up to Date Until Then
Don’t let your guard down just because the upgrade is coming. Until the switch, it’s critical that your Windows 10 devices are patched and properly maintained.
5. Prepare Your Team
If the systems or software look or behave differently in Windows 11, let your team know. A smooth transition depends on people being ready for the change, not just the tech.
Why It Matters
This isn’t just an IT issue, it’s a business risk.
- Unpatched systems are a top target for hackers and cybercriminals.
- Insurance, cyber essentials, and regulations often require supported software.
- Delaying could cost more, especially if you’re forced to upgrade in a rush.
- Your reputation depends on it — clients and suppliers expect you to take cyber security seriously.
